Skin Care Certifications
What do these certifications actually mean?
Labels like “Dermatologist Approved”, “Clinically Tested” or “EWG Verified” can sound impressive, but what do they actually mean? Here’s your quick glossary of the real certifications used in skincare today.
These aren’t just words. Some are government-regulated, some are industry-led, and some are simply marketing claims. Tap a certificate to learn more.
ISO Certified
What it means
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) creates global standards across industries. In skincare, ISO certification usually refers to quality management (e.g. ISO 9001) or cosmetic GMP (e.g. ISO 22716).
Why it matters
It shows a brand’s processes are internationally benchmarked and audited. B.Bath products are manufactured in an ISO-certified factory.
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
What it means
A quality system that governs how tests are conducted in a lab, from ingredient testing to safety checks.
Why it matters
GLP ensures transparency and traceability in the way safety and efficacy data is recorded. B.Bath products are formulated in GLP-certified laboratories.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
What it means
A globally accepted manufacturing standard ensuring products are made in a clean, controlled and consistent environment.
Why it matters
It reduces the risk of contamination, errors or batch inconsistencies. B.Bath products are manufactured in a GMP-certified factory.
FDA Licensed (India)
What it means
Approval from India’s Food & Drug Administration, which regulates cosmetic product safety, labelling and ingredients.
Why it matters
Compliance is mandatory for skincare brands in India, and it’s a sign that a product isn’t “kitchen-made” or illegal. B.Bath products are FDA licensed in India.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
What it means
BIS sets the national standard for product quality and safety across industries, including cosmetics.
Why it matters
It’s especially important for products like sunscreens and baby oils: BIS-compliant products meet India’s official safety guidelines. B.Bath products follow BIS formulations where applicable.
Cruelty-Free & Vegan / PETA Certified
What it means
- Cruelty-free: not tested on animals at any stage.
- Vegan: no animal-derived ingredients.
- PETA certification: a third-party assurance of both.
Why it matters
In India, animal testing for cosmetics is banned, but many imported ingredients may still be tested abroad. This label helps you shop guilt-free.
Ethically Sourced & Sustainable
What it means
Ingredients are harvested with transparency, fairness and care for the environment, from seed to shelf.
Why it matters
This isn’t a certification, it’s a philosophy. At B.Bath, we source plant-based oils and extracts from local farms using ethical labour and regenerative practices wherever possible.
EWG VERIFIED®
What it means
EWG (Environmental Working Group) is an independent non-profit. Its EWG VERIFIED® mark is given only to products that avoid EWG’s ingredients of concern, disclose every ingredient and are made under good manufacturing practices.
Why it matters
An independent team of scientists has checked what goes into the bottle. All five B.Bath baby formulas are EWG VERIFIED®.
