Gentle Scrubs

A good sugar scrub should leave your skin smoother and softer, not red and tight. Ours uses micro-granulated sugar, which is much finer than the sugar in most scrubs, held in a base of butters and oils. The butters cushion the sugar as you massage, so it polishes the skin without scratching it.

Each scrub has about ten ingredients, vitamin E among them, plus mild plant-based cleansers. So in one step it lifts dead skin, washes and leaves a layer of moisture behind. You don’t need to follow it with a body wash, and the skin doesn’t feel stripped afterwards.

There are two scrubs, and both are made for sensitive skin. Use one once a week, before you shave. A jar lasts about two months.

How sugar scrub exfoliation works

Dead skin cells build up on the surface all the time. You don’t see it happen, but skin starts to look dull and feel rough, and moisturiser doesn’t absorb as evenly. Sugar scrub exfoliation lifts that layer away by hand, with nothing more than gentle rubbing.

Sugar suits this better than salt. Its grains are rounder and they dissolve as you work, so the scrub gets gentler the longer you massage. Salt stays sharp and can sting skin that has a small cut or has just been shaved.

Why once a week is enough

Skin renews its surface on its own. Scrubbing more often than it needs strips the barrier and leaves skin sensitive. Once a week clears the build-up and gives your skin the rest of the week to settle.

Why before shaving

Exfoliating first lifts dead skin and softens hair, so the razor glides and you are less likely to get bumps. Scrubbing right after shaving does the opposite, because freshly shaved skin is at its most easily irritated.

How to use it

  1. Shower first, so your skin is wet and warm.
  2. Take a scoop and massage it in small circles over arms, legs and body. Let the sugar do the work rather than pressing hard.
  3. Rinse well. The butters and oils stay on the skin.
  4. Shave now if you are going to.
  5. Pat dry. Body butter or oil goes on most easily straight after a scrub.

Frequently asked questions

It removes the dull, dry layer of dead skin on the surface, so skin looks brighter and feels smoother. Because ours also has butters and oils, it moisturises in the same step.

It depends on the scrub. Coarse sugar and harsh cleansers can irritate. Ours uses micro-granulated sugar and a butter base, and both scrubs are made for sensitive skin. Floral Glow is the gentler of the two.

Once a week. More often than that can leave skin dry and sensitive.

Before. Scrub first, then shave. Avoid scrubbing freshly shaved skin.

We don’t recommend it. Facial skin is thinner, and these scrubs are made for the body.

Floral Glow has hibiscus, rose powder and rose essential oil, and suits very sensitive skin. Coffee Crush has coffee oil and powder, and suits skin prone to body breakouts or a tan.

One jar, once a week, about two months of smoother skin. Choose the sugar scrub for body that suits your skin.
